Datchet Bridge Chess Table
Project Type
Pyrography Commission
Date
August 2024
It was an absolute pleasure to work on this piece of history !
A Dredger Master who worked on the River Thames came into Art and Grind coffee shop one day, and asked for a pyrography artist who may be able to complete his unique chess table, with a historical image of Datchet bridge.
They kindly linked me with him and… the rest is history !
I took on this meaningful commission wholeheartedly.
The plaque on this table reads “The timber for this chess table was part of a long beech plank, salvaged from the decking from the road bridge built over The River Thames near Buckinghamshire village of Datchet. Datchets road bridge was commissioned and financed by king George III in 1770.”
I feel incredibly privileged to work on such a special project & one that may end up in a local museum… watch this space!
